Pediatric Eye Examination

Children need eye exams too! The American Optometric Association recommends an eye exam at 6 months, 3 years old, before starting kindergarten and then every 1-2 years thereafter. A comprehensive eye examination is important for children in that we can detect health issues and prescriptions in even our youngest patients. Early detection is key to providing your child with the tools to successful classroom and extracurricular activities. A child’s brain learns how to use eyes to see, just like he learns how to use his legs to walk or his mouth to form words. The longer a visual problem goes undiagnosed and untreated, the more a child’s brain learns to accommodate the vision problem.

Established in 2005 by the AOA, the InfantSEE program has been dedicated to providing free eye examinations to infants during their crucial first year of life. When we examine an infant, we are looking for:

excessive or unequal amounts of nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism
eye movement ability
eye health problems

Dr. Donovan is proud to participate in such an important program that is designed to ensure that eye and vision care become an essential part of infant wellness care.
